Ukarimu is a curriculum that is based on active learning principals, which means that students learn skills through practicing rather than listening. The students have to participate continuously in role plays, discussions, games and other exercises. As a facilitator, it means your role is to guide students through exercises and to enable them to learn from you but also from their fellow students and their own experiences. To help you facilitate such a process, you can also find a Facilitator Guide on this website, which provides guidance for each step of the process and includes suggestions for facilitating activities. It will help you to stimulate the students and promote their mental preparation and social growth.
The modules include instructions for the exercises as well as presentations and other supplementary pieces. There is also a diary which helps the students to reflect on their own growth.
